No time for games!
- 1st - ELA Test Prep and then Class Novel - The BFG. We read three chapters today: Snatched, The Cave, and The BFG. We learned a great deal about the setting, the two main characters, and what the BFG stands for "The Big Friendly Giant". After they finished reading, I challenged them to look at the description of Giant Country on pages 21 and 22 and then create a drawing of it. They came out pretty nice, so nice that I hung them up in the room! Good job little ones using the text to create an image.
- 2nd - Dance: All but three boys behaved and they seemed to have a great dance class.
- 3rd/4th - ReadyGen 3b.2 - Using visuals to better understand the text. We read chapter 1 of the Anatomy of a Volcano and then went over using the visuals to better understand the text. We learned about the layers of the earth, how plates move, and the difference between convergent and divergent plates.
- 5th- GoMath review of 8.1. Then we did a mini-lesson and completed 8.2. After the mini-lesson students completed their assignments and we then did the practice page to make sure that all was well.
- 6th - Lunch
- 7th - Finish GoMath by checking the practice page. Go over the the Math Test Prep from the weekend and pass out the new Test Prep Packet. We did the first few problems and assigned the homework problem. Finally we changed gears to Social Studies and we talked about the expectations of the poster they are creating for their 13 colony project. We went over what I wanted to see, and the difference between a "project" and a "learning poster". I don't want paragraphs - I want bullet points that are clear and concise. People should learn all they need to know about your colony in less than 5 minutes.
Homework:
- Reading - Three Column Chart collecting key ideas and details from pages 6 and 7 about the Crust, Mantle, and Core. (Using visuals to better understand the text)
- Writing: Use the diagram on pages 14 -15 to sketch an active volcano and label the parts using the diagram as a guide. (Using visuals to better understand the text)
- Math - Chapter 8 Mid-Chapter Check-Up
