Monday Madness

Let's just call a spade a spade... the kids were not back from Thanksgiving today.  They were not "interested" in much of anything today.  This happens after a break, but I must admit that I was very disappointed in them today.

We started a new book today.  The book is "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever".  It is a really sweet books that ties in perfectly with our ReadyGen unit.  We will spend a lot of time looking at character traits and author's craft as we read this novel.  We read Chapter 1 and were introduced to the Herdmans.  They are crazy, mean, no good group of kids who terrorize the school and community they live in.  No one wants to deal with them....

In ReadyGen today we reread Hiawatha and then read another poem called "Back To Nature".   The kids had to understand the definition of a legend and how the theme of "nature" plays an important part in both texts.

Math was a review of lesson 5.5 and then instruction on our last section 5.6 (patterns).  These are actually fun to work with.

Students worked on MATH in Waggle today.

After lunch, we finished 5.6 and talked about our new unit for Social Studies.  I think the students will enjoy learning about the explorers and early New  York.  They had to look up the vocabulary words for homework.

Talk to your lovies.... They were way to talkative and didn't want to do anything today.   Many of them didn't do their reading over the break and I need your help to make sure they are reading each and every night for 35-45 minutes....
