Third day back from Thanksgiving Break...
The students would rather talk than learn. As a teacher, I take that VERY personally.
Starting tomorrow I will be calling parents, on the spot, if their child interupts my teaching and others learning. It isn't right or fair, so tomorrow - TEACHER TAKEOVER DAY!
We welcomed a former student of PS 08 back today. We were lucky enough to get him in OUR class! So welcome back to PS08 Albert Jimenez. We are excited to have a new member in our McSmartie Family!
The students had Science first period.
Second period we came to the meeting area and talked about the flow of the day and expectations. We then read Chapter 3 of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" and had discussions about problem/resolution and character traits.
Third period we returned to "How the Stars Fell In the Sky" and read 7 more pages of the legend. We then went on to look more closely at dialogue and then the area of TONE and MOOD in writing. We had an interesting conversation and looked at several examples of TONE.
Fourth period we reviewed Chapter 5, looking at the MORE PRACTICE page from last night's homework. We looked at each question step by step and I asked repeatedly if there were any questions. We used the rest of 4th period and 5th period to take their Chapter 5 Test and then to input it into the ThinkCentral website. I am sad to say that MOST Of the class did not pass the test. I am so disappointed. I have to admit, it isn't surprising considering the lack of interest and hard work the students have shown the past 3 days. I guess you get what you give. Expect lower math scores on Friday's progress report. :-(
6th period was lunch. I picked the kids up and they were so loud coming out of the lunchroom. They almost knocked over the nurse in the hallway because they were talking, walking, and not paying attention. The principal came out of the office to talk to them. Again, SO EMBARRASSED!
7th period was spent finishing inputting the math test and then checking their social studies homework from Monday. They were supposed to look up 15 vocabulary words from the new chapter before we start. That was Monday. I reminded them before we went to lunch JUST IN CASE anyone wanted to do it last minute who forgot. 5 out of 25 students couldn't be bothered to even try to do it at lunch. Oh well, 15 points out of their Social Studies grade for the week. We started looking at Unit 2, Chapter 3 and got about half way through before we had to clean up and head home.
