Tuesday in Room 401

1st - DANCE

2nd - Students came back from Dance; the teacher said they were talkative and didn't want to pay attention :-(   We had to have a talk about that!  Then the students were given exactly 15 minutes to look over their Chapter 5 performance task to make any changes they wanted to.   When the 15 minutes was up, we moved to the front to finish The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.   Chapter 7 was short, but it was soooo good!   When it was done, students were tasked with three chores:  1) Take their AR test on the book, 2) Take a 14 question quiz on the book, and 3) work on a word search from the book.  This allowed everyone to be busy and productive while we tested (since we only have 5 computers!)  The students did well on the AR test so we earned more points!  Our goal is to catch the 5th grade classes in points read!!!

3rd - After finishing the testing for the book, we returned up front to review the last few pages of Pecos Bill and read the next two pages.  We talked about THEME again (the message of the story!)  It turns out that the theme of Pecos Bill and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever are very similar - Don't judge a book by its cover, don't judge people, people have both good and bad in them, and everyone can change!  We discussed how most books have more than one theme and their job was to be able to use the text to support whichever theme they picked.  With Pecos Bill,  we focused on how character traits can be inferred from dialogue and actions.   The students were able to go back into the text and answer questions using key ideas and details.   They were also able to use the text to show that Pecos Bill was STRONG, TOUGH, and CARING.

4th - We reviewed GoMath 4.1 and then went right into GoMath 4.2.    4.2 in GoMath is about putting numbers in groups and finding remainders.   The students found this to be much more pleasing than 4.1.  4.1 had them confused because you have to find which numbers the quotient is between and then which one it is closer to to find the estimate.   4.2, we just look to see how many groups we need, then place the numbers evenly until you have some left over which become the remainders.  They did pretty well I must say!

5th - Waggle ELA in the computer lab

6th - Lunch

7th - Checking homework from the weekend - Factors and then working on MULTIPLES.   I am going to keep reviewing these skills until the students show mastery and learn their facts.  It is vital that they learn their multiplication facts.  HELP ME PARENTS!!!

Homework:
Reading: Idioms
Writing: RW Journal page 100 Lesson 10:  Write two paragraphs (USING DIALOGUE and DESCRIPTIVE WORDS) to describe an interaction that MIGHT OF HAPPENED between Pecos Bill and the cowpoke on the ranch... (NOT THE HELL'S GATE GANG!)
Math - Practice 4.1 and 4.2
Read 40-45 minutes independently - WE MUST BEAT THE 5th GRADE in AR Points!!!!
